all of those were disappointing for use on flights and once i finally went for a pair of the Bose QCs I was happy. Nothing seems to beat their noise cancelling and they are plenty comfortable for long flights.

Bose. QC15 or newer. You can get very good quality used Bose headphones on Amazon or Ebay.

Another vote for Bose QC35s. You won't beat them for NC or comfort.
