You're definitely right on that point. Even when down, they're the cash cow

I'm just saying that if they stay down for too much longer, their value will diminish.

While it would be more profitable in the short term for USC to get in a stronger conference with more TV money, I think the value-maximizing thing for the long term would be for USC to build it's brand back up (by winning/returning to national relevance).
