I want to hang a 25lb object (light) from a drywall ceiling. The joists in the room run parallel to where I need it anchored (6" away from the joist) so it needs to be suspended by the drywall. I plan on hanging the object using two 'Heavy Duty Toggle Bolts' spaced 36" apart, the light will then be suspended from 3" of wire.
The toggle bolts are rated at 265lb (hanging a vertical item).
A youtube video has tested the 'direct pull/outward force' of the toggle bolt at 159lb
On paper everything looks fine... each toggle bolt will hold 12.5lb (well under its 159lb tested limit)
However, some people at work say don't do it, over time the drywall will crumble and give way.
If the light falls it would do ~$6-7k in damage 🙂
Soo... I'm asking the brain trust of CB. should I risk it?
