Read my first post. Nowhere did it say the Marines role was unimportant. In

Fact I said I don't discount at all what the Marines did and that it was incredible suffering for many.

But most people have no idea about the extremely high mortality rate among the bomber pilots of WW2, and comparing it with the well-known price paid by the Marines helps put it in context. It's a comparison that has been made by many historians. I didn't make it up
