BYU accepts over 50% and is about 10x easier to get into than the top 20 or so schools on the U.S. BYU realistically belongs where it is often ranked which is around 100 or so. Still pretty good for a religious school that 99% of the population would never apply to.

I took accounting classes at Utah and Weber. Both schools required 50+ hours a week of study to do well. Both schools also had professors that talked about how rigorous the programs were. One of my Weber professors would say that Weber is the “Ivy of the West,” for accounting, playing up the fact that a good chunk of the students worked for the IRS. He would also say, “Weber is one of only 120 schools worldwide with AACSB international accreditation for business and accounting,” Then use that to justify almost half the class failing.

My point it’s, most upper division professions play up the rigor of the program. BYU students tend to believe it a lot more for some reason. BYU is a great school and produces great graduates, that’s all that matters. When it comes to athletics, I would imagine BYU can get anyone in that puts forth some effort.
