I wouldn't describe it as cutthroat, at least when I was there. It was just
competitive. Everyone wanted to get good grades so they could get a job when they graduated. As a result, people studied late, tried to write good papers, tried to get on Law Review or Moot Court, etc. But in the process, I never saw anyone try to hurt their fellow classmates. I don't know how you would pull down a classmate in any event--break their legs the day before finals? I had great relationships with my classmates.
