I never actually said anything about the majority of non-LDS people attacking LDS people. Not sure where that came from. I also don’t find you insensitive, but I may disagree on some finer points that seem to be inferred if not stated outright.
I have actually spent quite a bit of time in places where Mormons are a very small minority, and I also was not active at all for a while. I’ve heard the type of stuff people say about Mormons when Mormons are not there. I’ll bet you have as well. It can be eye opening if not completely dismaying what some folks think. Jokes are fine. I actually enjoy this type of banter with a lot of my friends from different backgrounds, religions, etc. Some of it gets straight up ugly though when it comes to Mormons, and again, I’ll bet you know what I’m talking about.
I agree that there is rivalry smack goes both ways. There is stuff that is condescending, offensive, and meant to get under the other party’s skin both ways. I think that’s true of most rivalries and to be expected. I absolutely do not agree that it is basically a wash between the two schools. My experience has informed me that the obsession with the other party, need to demean, get extremely personal and use outright vitriol is far worse coming from the Utah side of things. For exhibit A, peruse the comment section or twitter feed for practically any article written about BYU in a Utah newspaper.
So yeah being told to calm down or lessons on wokeness, particularly from the Utah crowd are a bit tough to hear.
