This is perfectly stated! Basically half the UTE fans hate BYU because they are anti-LDS bigots. The other half of their fans, who are LDS, put up with their terrible behavior ( at least a large percentage), including their anti LDS conduct because they are Ute fans and hate BYU. These LDS Ute fans can put aside the religious bigotry (somehow tolerate it) because they both hate BYU. The irony of the LDS Ute fans who tolerate the ant-lds behavior is they forget or choose to not acknowledge that these same fans also hate them because they are LDS.

Now I know there are many LDS Ute fans who don’t tolerate anti LDS behavior (I also know not all non LDS Ute fans are a anti-LDS) but unfortunately they are too few of them to actually prevent this stuff from occurring regularly in their stadium/tailgate parties etc. Heck (I know, so LDS of me) when I was 8 years old I got to hear awful anti- LDS vitriol for 3 1/2 hrs at Lavell Edwards stadium because I happened to go with a friend who had tickets near the Ute fans. Did any of the LDS Ute fans near us tells these bigots to cut it out and enjoy the sports game or remind them that this wasn’t an appropriate place to discus their view of the problems with the LDS church)? Nope! I was privileged to hear about Joseph Smith’s perceived follies and how LDS people suck and ruined the state. This experience and many others started my disdain/dislike for Utah. I’m not an alumnus (went to a semester at a BYU but ended up transferring to BYU-Idaho as I was excepted into the program I wanted to study much earlier than I could have at BYU, but I still consider BYU to be my team.
