BYU just lost Pittman, and Reno Mahe was a RB prior.
Ben Cahoon wasn't scary going into 1997. And Kealaluhi wasn't a whole lot scarier than Shumway is, going into 1996. Neither was McGuire. 1996 didn't even have a clear cut #1 WR. They had a few dudes who stepped up big from the year prior. Stepped up after losing a senior leader. Johnston was the only receiver to get to 40 catches in 2005, and then he graduated. BYU had OK but nothing amazing at WR, but two guys stepped up well and fit in with the TEs to make a really solid group. Same kind of thing we can look for this year.
Were teams afraid of Hoffman going into 2010? No. Shoot, probably even 2011. Maybe a little. Were teams afraid of Mathews going into 2014? No. Sense a theme?
At some point you have to sit back and say oh, this is college sports. The top producers eventually leave and have to be replaced. That doesn't necessarily mean we should worry. It means we try to find who can fill those spots and how, rather than laying in a pool of our own tears.
