from reality in this aspect. They think that fans should retain loyalty no matter what they do and no matter how their teams perform purely because of them being LDS. They seem to think that the BYU fandom should transcend the standard definitions of fandom and exist on an existential plane that isn’t dependent on performance but rather on spiritual attachment.
That’s a long way of saying that they take their fans for granted and assume that it doesn’t matter how they perform or how many obstacles they put up that BYU fans should accept all of it in much the same way LDS members accept doctrine and policy from the church itself. They don’t understand that they are the ones privileged to have us as fans but rather than we should feel privileged that they allow us to be fans of them.
