That's some pretty wild stuff there.

I personally don't know any - not one - Utah fan who wants the rivalry to end. I know some who feel like conference games are more important because they impact conference standing. I know some who don't like some of the bitterness that is coming out more and more. I know some who feel like being in the PAC12 means Utah will always be the better team now. But I don't know any who say they don't like the rivalry and want the game to end.

If you think that the state legislature "forced" Utah to play BYU because there are BYU fans up on the hill - then in what crazy world do you think those BYU legislator fans are going to be satisfied if/when Utah offers a 1 and done deal? I can see them not squawking if USU works into the rotation and the games against BYU are not annual games. But having Utah offer a 1 and done home game for Utah isn't going to pacify a BYU fan who is also a legislator. It's just going to make them mad. That take has got to be one of the dumbest I've ever heard. What is to keep BYU from offering a 1 and done for Utah to play in Provo and then spinning that to the legislature "see, we tried to keep the rivalry going, but they wouldn't take it."

Seriously. I'm not sure there is a more dumb take out there. If students are writing that and their faculty supervisors are letting them get away with it, it's a poor reflection on the average intelligence of the newspaper staff up there.

Utah has always recruited out of state. That isn't new. Twenty years ago there were players being interviewed who had come to both BYU and Utah from out of state talking about how they didn't realize how big a deal the rivalry was until the first time they played in the game.

This really is a sad reflection of the U's student paper - not that it's ever been great or anything.
