I think Kalani and Holmoe had similar philosophies and approach to their jobs
I think Kalani came in thinking that he'd bring a new attitude to Provo. His fun, player friendly approach would bring the best recruits to Provo. They'd work hard, have fun, and win a lot of games. I think he's finally discovered that isn't going to cut it and actually being good football coaches matter more than being bros.

Holmoe came into independence with the same attitude. We'll schedule some tough teams, play all across the country, and win a lot of a games. And in short order somebody is going to add us to their P5 conference anyways.

Now both are up and creek without a paddle and not entirely sure of what to do. Both are stuck between a rock and hard place. Kalani doesn't know how to be that tough nosed coach and instill discipline, order, coordination, and effort in his program. I honestly think he thought it would be a cake walk with his original mantra.

Holmoe is in the same spot. Indy is where BYU is stuck. P5 isn't going to happen. G5 would be giving up. Scheduling is a nightmare that is severely hurting his program's prospects and attendance.
