I've had DirecTV for 3 years and my annual contract expired a couple of weeks
ago. I saw my automatic bill pay go up from my regular $35 to $108. This happens every year, and I call in and they offer me some promotion, throw in a premium channel and then I end up paying around the same price.

Last night, I was on chat with them for like 20 minutes, and then they had to call me from their customer loyalty department and we did the same dance for like 20 minutes. They said, Mr SpecialT, we can offer you a $40 discount on your package. So my price would have gone from $35 to $108 to $68. I explained that was almost double what I was previously paying. They apologized and said the promotion I previously had was no longer available.

Okay, in that case please cancel my service (I figured they would escalate me to a manager and offer some additional promotion). They just simply said okay, please return your equipment.

I was pretty shocked. They have to be hemorrhaging customers with all the cord-cutting options available and they didn't even try to keep me.

Oh well--on to cord cutting. I think I'm going to go PS Vue. It seems to have the best options for sports. At $55/month for the medium package, it's more than I was paying for DirecTV, but less than what I would be paying with the new pricing. I think YouTube TV is second option.
