You need to let go of the other definition. The point is that there is no
requirement for BYU to have these restrictions. They were placed there by individual preference of the BoT rather than by necessity. They can be removed by the BoT at any time that they choose. Exhibit A is that the modern version of the honor code did not exist prior to the 1960s. Exhibit B BYU has had at least one non-LDS head coach.
