No one thinks that if BYU won games in the MWC we wouldn't be ranked. The narrative is not that fans think the MWC isn't good enough for BYU. Despite many who try to create that narrative just to point out its hubris.

The question really is as simple as playing P5 teams for more money or G5 teams for less money. I'd rather play P5 teams. If we had played Boise's schedule instead of our own, we would be 2-4 just like now. And instead of wins over Tennessee and USC we'd have wins over UNLV and Portland state. We wouldn't have any greater shot at a MWC title than we do now (we'd already be 0-2 in conference as Hawaii and Air Force are both better teams than Toledo or USF).

The truth is that we are a bottom half of the MWC program right now. You need look no farther than our record against Boise and Utah St to see that. Boise fans would probably rather make more money as an independent and keep their ranking and play better teams if they had the choice. BYU has that opportunity.

If BYU loses to the point that ESPN is no longer interested (as fan support wanes, this is a real possibility down the road) then BYU will be forced to join a G5 conference to remain financially viable. However, in no way would that situation improve our current state of football hell.
