I’m confused. BYU was in the Mountain West for how many years? And how many BCS bowl games did we bust?
How many undefeated seasons did we have in the mountain west?
The difference between BYU and Boise State right now is not that one is G5 and the other is Independent, the difference is coaching and money invested in the program. We also have way more stipulations with both our players and our coaching staff than any other school.
We used to be able to recruit LDS kids who were not highly sought after because they were planning on missions. Now every great LDS prospect has multiple Power 5 offers. Our biggest rival is a Power 5. They don’t need to have an LDS coach, they don’t need recruits to shave or cut hair or live the law of chastity.
Dropping down back to the MWC changes nothing except making us subject to another crazy conference commissioner, losing revenue from our ESPN contracts, fewer nationally televised games and issues with BYUtv rebroadcasting games.
Indy isn’t the best, we all know that. But it’s better than returning to the MWC for the reasons I stated above.
