Being at the game you could feel the tension and dislike. It was very physical.
I think a rivalry is a stretch. Unless you add a qualifier. BYU is Utah's rival. But ASU has become Utah's division rival. The game seems to have an impact on the south division nearly every year. Both schools compete for the same recruits which adds to bad blood in the fantasy world of fandom.
