It’s because fans think tv contracts and resources makes you better
The reality is a consistent schedule year after year where you know your opponents for the most part bring stability to recruiting and player development. And you tend to win more games when you know your opponents. Even ND figured this out and plays the same 10 teams every season mixing in a few different ones. BYU only playing a few known opponents and then mixing in so manny m random opponents each season while front loading the schedule is why independence has failed.
