It's not about only winning because schedules people play are so inherently unequal that it's impossible
I get that's what you want. I understand you want an avenue for every team every year to have a route to a championship if they just win out. I understand all of that. But going 12-0 against garbage teams by every metric means nothing. Going 11-1 against the SEC is just harder than that. The current system is a bit arbitrary, but college football is inherently unequal. Rewarding teams because they go undefeated in Conference- USA is just moronic. It means nothing. 30+ teams in the country could probably do that easily.
I'm glad we are smart enough to take a step back and not pretend that 12 wins against nobody is not the absolute most important metric in the world. We are smarter than that.

Top non-P5 should be included only if the playoff is this large. But giving them a top 5 seed is dumb

I understand the argument. I just disagree. It sucks but G5 schedules are just horrible compared to P5

If it’s fed by conference championships rather than rankings, then the regular season is just as important to the end.

More important: There should be no arbitrary benefit awarded by anything other than wins and losses.
