Rankings. Utah is 130s.

Utah has a medical school. BYU does not.
Utah has a dental school. BYU does not.
Law schools are comparable.
Business school edge goes to BYU. Utah us rapidly gaining ground.
Utah’s Ph.D. Programs are highly respected across the board. BYU has limited programs past the MA/MS level.

They are two different types of universities.

Take it from someone who was recruited to teach at BYU...BYU is not a place that fits into the mold of research institution. It is a mentor-based college and sends a whole lot of students onto greener pastures of academic achievement.
