You have to look at the whole body of work. Took over a program that was *at least* 3 games over .500 every year except one, since 2006. Record since taking over: 9-4, 4-9, 7-6, and then 2019. "Headed in the right direction" is not the same as proving you can consistently get the job done. So I think the jury will still be out, regardless of the outcome of the remaining games.

2020's schedule will be tough, but BYU's team should also be better next year. I would see how things go in the next year or two before offering any longer term deals.

My take on 2019's record:
9-4 = 1 or 2 yr extension (improvement from 7-6, 3-4 nice wins, with inconsistent performances and a couple of head scratching losses.)

8-5 = 1 year extension (marginal improvement from 7-6, 3-4 nice wins, with inconsistent performances and 2-3 head scratching losses.)

Anything less, I defer to Holmoe and his knowledge of which HC candidates are willing to come to BYU and which have ruled it out.
