We aren't good at efficiency, and our SOS-adjusted PPG is bad

Our defense is 76th in FEI, which is the Football Outsiders' measure to capture the stuff in the article you linked. So by the authority you are citing, our defense is not good. Our defense is 79th in SP+, which is Bill Connelly's SOS-adjusted PPG measure. So it isn't good by "the number of points we're giving up," either.

Last year we gave up 11.4 & 3.9. In 2017 those numbers were 12.3 & 3.9. And in 2016, 11.0 & 4.9
