Only if conference champion is in top 12 or so.
Otherwise, imagine Virginia getting in with a fluke win against Clemson or Oregon getting in if they would have finished with 3 losses, etc. You don't want mediocre, fluky conference champs automatically in.

Names are all that matter, not wins. Just ask Finebaum

Wisconsin crumbles.

They may lose. But we all know that barring some craziness from the committee

Fine. But then you also can't let someone who didnt even make their championship

Starting to sound like Auto bids.

In rare circumstances, like I said, they should be allowed. But not in the game

They just need to go to an 8 team playoff and give autobids to conference champs

I agree. Would fix a lot of problems with the current system.

YES, I agree. But then you might not want either in. If Virginia won I think

I think you let them in no matter what. If you leave it up to whether they are

Even if they are clearly a Top 3 or 4 team?
chilango

That wouldn’t happen imo. A CLEAR top 3 or 4 team would not lose to a team well
Robbinoburrito

So Clemson wouldn’t lose to Syracuse a few years ago? Or tOSU to Virginia Tech,

These were conference championship games?

No. You said: “A CLEAR top 3 or 4 team would not lose to a team well below them”

Lol. My op was about the what should be considered a quarter final conference
Robbinoburrito
12/7/19 9:05pm
Except that it’s explicitly not a quarterfinal. I’m fine with the playoff
chilango

Of course it’s not. My op was just saying that I think it should be considered

Well, I disagree.

And I don’t think they get the “four best teams” in most of the time. Maybe two
Robbinoburrito
12/7/19 9:24pm
The top 4 are pretty clear this year, don’t you think?
chilango
12/7/19 9:35pm
Three of them are. We all know who the committee will probably pick for “four”
Robbinoburrito
12/7/19 9:40pm
Who would you view as the #4?

There are a lot of options, which is my point, but I’ll play along. My finalists

I can’t agree. Bama’s best win was Texas A&M, and they lost to the only other 2

It was Bama’s last game right before the semis, but not the CCG.
