recruiting advantage of giving their players a Hawaii trip every year and playing in Hawaii where they had stolen all of the best talent from the Rainbows. We were like 10-0 in our last 10 games on the island. So we had no reason to expect we wouldn't steam roll with the Heisman winner and 4th ranked team. It was a trap game for sure. But bottom line is BYU wasn't ready to play football. Hawaii made great strides in their program and were sick of us. They blew us out again the next year on the islands, and we had to abandon deferring our home game from then on.
Edit: They actually blew us out in 1989, so that's really pathetic, it shouldn't have been a trap game in 1990. But I do think the Heisman announcement earlier in the day was a HUGE distraction for the whole team.
