That's 14 in 9 games, roughly 1.5 per game. Not hard to win when you are throwing 3-4 TDs in those games (41-5-2-3=31).

Hawaii game was just a few hours after Heisman announcement. The season ended with the announcement. Mission accomplished.

Detmer eviscerated the best defense in the nation. Miami was a dynasty. Only Doug Flutie during his Heisman season had anyone passed for more yards against Miami.

That's how Ty won the Heisman with those stats. Nothing else mattered after the nation saw Detmer against Miami. (Plus, Heisman voters knew they had shafted BYU QBs long enough.)
