be taken as a sleight on him, but it wasn’t intended to be. I was just looking at stats and couldn’t believe he threw 28 INTs when he was so amazing. I was just in grade school watching him. So while he was my hero, I didn’t have the perspective some on the board have as to how he was so successful while throwing such a high number of picks. I appreciate the insight many have shared here. My earliest BYU football memories are Ty Detmer BYU magic. I absolutely meant no disrespect.
Especially appreciate the insight some have given on the Hawaii game. I actually now remember my dad making comments (at the time) about the team being distracted because of the Heisman announcement that day. Makes sense. It may because the game was so late at night, but I really don’t remember watching it at all.
In the bowl game, I was amped for BYU/Ty to bounce back against a good A&M team. I remember being devastated when A&M killed us. Ty was playing with two separated shoulders. Absolute stud playing his heart out. Then A&M rubbed it in and ran up the score. I can’t remember now who their coach was, but my dad instilled in me a very strong dislike for him because they ran up the score on us that game.
