"James Connolly" by Black 47
When I was growing up I was fascinated with the Soviet Union for many reasons, among which: How could they be evil when their national anthem was so obviously superior to ours? You can even change the words and it's still awesome. Well, I'm not Irish and I'm not socialist, so is it appropriation for me to love Black 47's political songs? I hope not, although Maria and Céilí would be decent consolation prizes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wukfdjJv340
"One Green Hill" by Oysterband
I admit it, I like my folk punk heavier on the roots music side than the drunken, violent, pub punk side. It just feels more like home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riwZkKBRNoc
"Darkness and Sail" by McDermott's 2 Hours
Did McDermott's 2 Hours start the English roots&politics movement with Dirty Davey? I don't know, but it makes a good story, along with the fact they put out just one album in the first 20 years and gathered a following based only on their shows. Since then they've put out several collaborative albums with the Levellers and Oysterband, which brings this list full circle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyI9h56WlD0
