Whittingham isn’t winning because he gets paid a lot of money. He wins because he finally has some talent to go along with his lunch pail mentality. And he has a decent offensive coordinator now too.

Look, I’m on board if anyone say BYU should be spending more on our football and basketball programs. I’m all for building up facilities and getting into the arms race. I think BYU could do some pretty amazing things because we have resources available to us that maybe even no other school has. The church has so much money but isn’t willing to use any of it on the football program.

What I don’t get is people saying we should pay our head coaches more. Kalani isn’t worth more. None of the realistic candidates out there for a head coach job are worth more. If we dropped the ridiculous LDS requirement, I vote we offer $100 million to Urban Meyer and see if he’ll do it. Since we are handcuffed by the LDS requirement, I wish we would offer some amazing non-LDS coordinators a boatload of money to come coach here and we tell them they’re allowed to drink coffee whenever they want.

We are definitely super cheap when it comes to feeding our football program. I wish that would change. The head coach isn’t the place to spend it because we don’t have any candidates worth it.
