Wow, why the personal attacks?
I can't understand why it's so hard for many to just have a discussion without personal attacks. Please don't be a jerk.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I could change mine. That's the point of having a discussion. So in between your personal attacks of me, you had some good points. My point is that I hear many complain that BYU doesn't pay coaches as much as other p5 schools. I think that's the wrong question to ask. The better question is are we paying coaches what they are worth based on their experience? Because I think part of the "underpaying" problem is that our coaching pool is just so small for BYU that we usually/often get coaches with little experience.

Sitake's a first time head coach. Ed Lamb is first time coaching at this level (before he was at SUU). Fesi and Gilford=first time at this level. Grimes and Tuiaki are first time coordinators. Steve Clark was at Weber State. Steward was at Rice. It could be argued that all of them are basically brand new at the level of competition that they are currently at working for BYU. We do not have P5 coordinators as our coordinators, or p5 position coaches as our position coaches. So I'm not surprised that we are not paying our assistants the same as p5 teams are. We shouldn't be. That would be overpaying for their level of experience.

That's my point.

Same with basketball ... Pope has only coached at UVU and his assistants have only coached at UVU, basically.

If these coaches are worth more, let them try the market and come back to BYU and request more money. It's been telling in the past that after coaching at BYU many just leave the profession. Our coaching pool is just really, really small.

Now, if we stole Lance Anderson to be our D-coordinator or Kellen Moore to be our offensive coordinator, and still were paying what we are now, then I'd be very surprised, and we'd have the right to argue that BYU was being super cheap about it. I also believe that it's probably true that BYU is underpaying the coaches we have ... I'm just saying it's hard to say how much they are underpaid given their lack of experience. I think they are probably not underpaying quite as much as it appears. If we did hire a Lance Anderson, we'd likely be paying him a lot more.

I'm happy to respond if you aren't name-calling, and have a good argument to respond to.
