I assume kickers could kick it differently than “up”. Kick it really low at someone’s back.
It’s not dodgeball. You’re kicking it at guys that are going through the motions trying to block for the returner, not expecting the ball to come at them. And oftentimes the blockers are clustered closely together so it has the potential to hit a few different guys.
