That's what I found too. And the senior biologists don't make any money.
It truly is a job you do if you it is your passion and you can be happy living on very little. I was all in on it for awhile but I decided it wasnt feasible if I intended to have a family. Trout were and are my passion, but at the end of the day I chose to pursue a higher income. I don't love my current career path and still wonder every day if I made the right decision.

I think I could have been happier as a personal trainer or computer programmer if the pay was the same as my current pay
