40% pay cut and couldn't be happier in startup tech
I left private equity / late stage VC for early stage startups. Regardless of whether the equity ever pays off, I couldn't be happier with the choice. Actually building a business is incredible rewarding vs. the repeated grind of due diligence & deal processes.
There are new challenges and problems to solve each day and week, and the reward of seeing something you're building be used and make an impact is incredible. I can't imagine doing anything else.

I think I could have been happier as a personal trainer or computer programmer if the pay was the same as my current pay
