Agreed, I am certainly simplifying things and probably leaning towards index investing because that is what I
primarily do.
I understand PE ratios, but in the end as I said, the market always goes up.
Certainly depend on age and investing horizon there is some defense you can, and probably should, play (more to your point in the second post).
