He can be held accountable and have to pay the price but it doesn’t need to be

automatic expulsion. In a case like this, shunning someone from a group one belongs to, especially a group that can benefit them in recovery/repentance/repair for the wrong done, doesn’t benefit anyone or repair any of the wrongs or even consequences of the wrongs. Does this mean take away consequences/punishments? No. He should get what he is charged for by law and not play football at least for the season. But let the guy learn from this and get his edu (maybe have the scholly pulled for a year though). Don’t take away his chance to become a civilized and responsible person that can contribute to society, and in this case even one day in the church. I bring up the church here because being expelled from BYU could leave a bad taste in his mouth for the church even though he could still be apart of it elsewhere. BYU absolutely should not condone what he did but they can still show love and opportunity for him as he suffers the consequences. That’s my thoughts on this particular case and I believe these should all be case by case.
