... the Rec league person sends out an email asking for parents to volunteer because they don’t have enough coaches for all of the teams.

So I offer to coach, and often my kids don’t play with their friends from school because we get put on whichever team needed a coach, so it’s my kid plus ten kids from some other school across town.

And usually I get a few dads who come up and offer to help and say: “I would have coached, but I’m just too busy.”

And I’m probably not a great coach in any of the sports, but sometimes just being willing to show up is good enough.
