Cinderella teams do it every year. (Or even teams that are in the top 20 in the AP poll). But even in BYU football's best season in the last 10-15 years (2009), they ended up in....the Las Vegas Bowl. They couldn't even sniff a sorta important 2nd tier bowl (Sun, Citrus, Gator, Outback,etc). This was despite the fact that they were consistently ranked in the top 20 or so for most of 2009. There is at least a pretense in basketball of the top teams that year actually getting to prove themselves on the court.
