I got my house for a discount, but my career was also derailed/delayed in a pretty major way, so it was overall a pretty big loss.

Both, was laid off in 2009 but was able to get a discounted home in 2008

Nope. I bought my first home in 2008 at a premium. Sold it a few years later and was lucky to sell it for what I owed.

It got me away from Las Vegas summers since I lost job, but at least my 250k home sold for 90k. So, I'd say no.
