sold our home in Cali at about $70k loss and bought a new home in Lehi at the low end of the market. Probably have about $250k in equity now.

Nope. I bought my first home in 2008 at a premium. Sold it a few years later and was lucky to sell it for what I owed.

It got me away from Las Vegas summers since I lost job, but at least my 250k home sold for 90k. So, I'd say no.
