We got screwed. Bought our townhome in 2006. Were stuck there and unable to move until 2016 when we could finally sell

for our loan value. We didn't make a penny, but at least didn't have to pay or short sell. Had we not been forced to stay there 10 years, we definitely would have moved earlier. So our lives have been significantly impacted by that. It also impacted my grad school pursuits and Ph.D. candidacy at a school in California.

Nope. I bought my first home in 2008 at a premium. Sold it a few years later and was lucky to sell it for what I owed.
