and I have lost 20 lbs since Jan 1. Crazy thing is that is has not been that hard because I allow myself to eat everything I just don't allow myself to not care. Admittedly I have lots to lose so 20 lbs is the easy weight. Personally I also enjoy modified intermittent fasting for 1 day a week. I eat an apple for breakfast and a handful of carrots for lunch on that day so its not even true fasting.
I find that the fasting day is very effective, not for the calories I lose that day, since I eat a huge meal at night and intake almost the same amount of calories as other days. Its effective because it has trained me on self control so that eating a little less other days seems like no biggie at all. Also makes my stomach small for a day or two which makes it easy to feel full earlier. I do it on a week day so I don't feel like I am sacrificing around family.
In the end you kind of have to make your plan your own and then stick with it as a long term thing rather than a short one so I am still working on making it a lifetime habit and not giving up if I pull a cheat day or meal.
