okay, let’s say I want to hit the Wedge overlook this weekend. It’s 2hr 30 minutes to Moab, and 2 hr 24 minutes to home.
Again, Moab is a gateway for part of Utah’s recreation down south. And it’s a very small portion of that recreation. It’s also on the very outskirts of Utah, not some central locale that requires one must pass through to get anywhere. But the closure extends all the way through parts of central Utah. That’s what doesn’t make sense.

I am not going to stop living life based on a hypothetical “what if you get hurt” guilt trip. What if I stay home? Tackle the honey do list and pull out the table saw to finish a shelf. There could be hypothetical injuries a million ways outside or inside the home. I wonder if my kids are statistically more likely to get hurt on the trampoline in the backyard or on a hike? Or on their hoverboard?

For the record I am sheltering in. But on week 3 of this mess I sure as heck will be looking for ways to get out without being around people. Closing off 1/5 of the state’s land will put more pressure on other outdoor areas that are open. Especially since many of those areas will still be snowed in.
