President Trump mentioned reevaluating at the end of 15 days and was immediately
eviscerated by his opponents. How dare he think about the economic consequences in a time of panic like this?

The medical experts are driving the policy direction right now and they are only capable of evaluating the situation from a medical standpoint. But I have not heard the medical experts answer the question about at what point is the economy just as important as flattening the curve.

I frequently hear CBers who proclaim that if we shut everything down for 2-4 weeks disaster will be avoided and the economy will bounce right back like nothing ever happened. Neither of those claims are true. This virus will not go away. As soon as the restrictions are lifted the virus will come back and continue spreading. The virus will continue to spread until we've reached herd immunity as a country or until a vaccine is developed. Will the government reapply restrictions every time the virus flares?

The economy is like an aircraft carrier, it doesn't stop or turn on a dime. In our panic to stop the spread of this virus we blew up the engine room of the aircraft carrier. Even if restrictions are lifted in 2-4 weeks it is going to take a few years to rebuild that engine room.

kimdaddy35, for you personally, at what point/threshold does the negative economic impact become more important to you then flattening the curve?
