Because they cherry pick the easy areas to keep in their delivery network but use the post office in the unprofitable areas. This is driving the post office further into insolvency, and the government is asking taxpayers to help out. Amazon is a great service, but they do tend to get tax breaks and profit directly and indirectly from tax funds.
