Amazon hasn't taken advantage of the USPS, but if they have, it's entirely the
fault of the USPS. If there are areas that are more expensive to deliver to, it's the responsibility of the USPS to price things accordingly. When I ship UPS, I don't expect a package to cost the same no matter where I ship it, I expect it to cost more based on the costs incurred to actually ship it. If the USPS hadn't come up with their ship anywhere for the same price scheme they did a number of years ago, they wouldn't be in this situation.

Plus, the vast majority of their losses are do to them being behind on funding their retirement accounts. Yet even with all these losses, you don't see them doing what i would consider reasonable cost cutting alternatives. For example, do I really need my junk mail delivered 6 days per week? Why not 4 days per week? I can't imagine that actually hurting anyone yet that would be a dramatic cost saving measure. Delivery drivers could work 4 10 hr shifts. Much easier than dealing with a 6 day week.

Post Office needs to be there, I like that we have it, but I don't think it needs to be a "right" to have your mail delivered so frequently, especially when there are other companies that duplicate the same service for situations where something is needed on a specific day.
