We are staying at home to flatten the curve to allow time to grow the supply of healthcare resources to grow to meet the exploding demand because we are all going to get Coronavirus eventually.
Our stay at home time is allowing time for manufacture/distribution of respirators, building temporary hospitals, manufacture/distribution of PPE, mobilizing healthcare professionals, mass manufacture/distribution/administrative of Coronavirus testing, mass manufacture/distribution of possible treatments (e.g. Hydroxychloroquine) so that the healthcare system can handle the hospitalizations that will be necessary when the stay at home orders are ended.
I am very concerned that policy makers and health care professionals may into the hysteria and change the goal from stay at home to "flatten the curve" to stay at home to minimize infections. That means staying at home until an immunization is available, which could be a very long time.
Flattening the curve is the goal and can be accomplished in April and should result in most of us getting back to normal life (highly vulnerables still self-isolating) with a much more prepared health care system that can take care of the most vulnerable who will need serious medical attention to survive Coronavirus.
