The hypothesis isn't that it causes hemolysis. They believe that the virus binds

To the beta-1 subchain and prevents oxygen binding. Very interesting claim. However, they made their theory after viewing a bunch of non-specific labs and claiming that was proof of anemia and low heme. Seems like they did their biochemical analysis first, then found a hypothesis to make sense of it all. Bad science.

Agree SARS-CoV2 doesn't cause hemolysis directly, though multi-organ failure with DIC will. Likely mechanism of action
