In general, females have a stronger immune response than males
Women tend to be more resistant to infection, but at the same time are more susceptible to autoimmune disease. It's a pretty well-described phenomenon. In fact, there's a joke within immunology community about "man-sick" being a real thing.
I suppose it's possible that something about this coronavirus could be exacerbating those differences, but that's not something we'll know for awhile.
