Truth is, for many of the years there was a pretty strong divide & conflict on staff between Lance Reynolds & Anae. Anyone who knows anything about the program knows something about that — & also knows that it came to a head w/ Anae's leaving — & came yet again to another head w his return.
It's no surprise we've all heard plenty in regards to Anae. The guy isn't everyone's favorite person. Surprise, surprise. But considering how things turned out — more should be questioning the conduct (& stories) of the eventually ousted other side.
The 4 criteria for judging Anae:
1. His ability as OC (pretty impressive).
2. His quality of offensive hires (a HECK of a lot better than anything Bronco ever reeled in).
3. His coordination & delegation competence w his hires (again, very good).
4. The effect on the team (in terms of basic management) from the time Anae was relieved versus the two years after he returned. This was a huge telltale, imo — amounting not only a major indictment of both Reynolds & Doman — but of Bronco's ability as HC as well. It gave us more than a glimpse of the reality — that Bronco was not clear & chief executive of our coaching staff. And probably never was.
P.S. I really like Lance Reynolds as a man & as a coach. I hope I didn't disparage him too much here. I do wish he'd made a better effort to respect Bob Anae, though. (And to be honest, I have NO idea how hard that might be. It sure wouldn't be an easy task for many of us, prob.)
