playing all of the teams in your division, because those are the most important for crowning a division champ. Once those are done, they will play some games from the other division. If something happens and teams (or even a single team in the conference) is only able to get in 6 or 7 or 8 games, it is most important that they play division games first and then non-division conference games. The B1G doesn't want to find itself having to shut down some teams or the whole league after a couple of months while having teams play games against an FCS team and a MAC team while not having played a couple of division opponents. They want to be able to reasonably name division winners if something happens down the road. That, and the ability to change schedules on a dime, are the biggest reasons for this, along with uniform health and safety guidelines.
