has over estimated the independence of the 90+ year old couple. They have done extremely well up until the last year or so. I think a big part of that has been the support of one daughter who lives in town and my wife's father who lives about an hour an a half away. The daughter in town had been helping with a lot of the day to day stuff, wife's father with the bigger projects around the house.
The fall in January brought all of this to a head. Multiple months in the hospital during covid wasn't helpful. When I say he's getting much better, he can get out of bed, have a very cogent conversation, walk some with a walker. Needs help with bathroom, shower etc. Honestly, he could live another 5 years or die next month. They have some level of limited home nursing help. My guess is that needs to increase and also an increase in lower skilled help.
